“Prof. McCaskey is one of the best professors I’ve had at Brown. His intelligence and passion for the material is evident. He leads class effectively, guiding students while still allowing them to think for themselves. He taught me to be a stronger writer and critical thinker! He is there for students and very available outside of class. Great guy!!”

“Class was always interesting, engaging, and educational. He has a clear passion for what he teaches and for his students. He doesn’t want to just lay out the information, he wants to make sure you understand it and can write well about it. He is great at leading discussions in a productive manner while encouraging participation.”

“Any class offered by Professor McCaskey is sure to be interesting; I HIGHLY recommend taking one. Professor McCaskey was deeply interested in the material, and this clearly shined through in class. Because he was so passionate, the ENTIRE class reciprocated at least some interest, so class discussions were always very lively and engaging.”

“This class was hands down the best class I’ve taken at Brown. Challenging and reading intensive, but so worthwhile. Every reading was interesting, and Professor McCaskey pushed us to look beneath the surface and find what wasn’t there. He challenged us to make and support an argument and was always made himself available for help. Great professor.”

“Very clear and helpful, led very interesting discussions. Held somewhat rigid and uncompromising opinions (he’s an outspoken Objectivist), but was accepting of differing views if they were very well articulated.”

“Moral Foundations of Capitalism was a great class! Professor McCaskey is very passionate and engaging. But be warned: he will cold call on you and if he suspects that you haven’t kept up on the reading he will send you an email entitled ‘Are you keeping up?’ Very very worth it though.

“Moral Foundations of Capitalism with Prof. McCaskey is a wonderful class. I ended up changing my views about many of the authors we read and learned a lot about both the supporters and detractors of capitalism. Definitely one of the most interesting classes at Stanford. I would recommend this to anyone regardless of political persuasion.”

Phenomenal teacher. I learned more in this class than I have in any other class at Stanford. Really challenges students to think critically and to thoroughly understand concepts. Very approachable. Was determined to schedule time with students outside of class if he felt they weren’t fully grasping the concepts.”

Prof. McCaskey challenges every student to challenge and formulate her personal economic and political philosophy or at least understand and challenge those of the writers we read. “Professor McCaskey is good at helping students think about the course concepts. He did this by relating the readings to each other, providing readings with different moral arguments, and giving us detailed feedback on completed papers and drafts. The class environment made it easy for students who weren’t familiar with the material to participate.”
